ECBBA has done wonders for my child. His confidence and ability to focus gets better with every class. Sensei Jerry and Sensei Rick are the best.

I’ve been part of the adult class for about 6 months and my children have been going for about 2.5 years. There’s not enough room here to accurately describe how special of a place this dojo is. Sensei Jerry truly cares about each and every student who steps on the deck. He wants to see you grow as a karateka and as a person outside the dojo. He is a wealth of knowledge and he is not stingy with sharing it. If you can absorb it, he wants you to have it. When you walk into the dojo, you’ll notice a large contingent of black belts in any given class. Please do not be discouraged by this. Each and every one of those black belts is more than happy to help you with the course material and give you advice. Everyone is friendly and the environment is geared towards everyone lifting each other up. The style of karate is self defense based, this is not sport karate. However the classes get the material across to you without unnecessary wear and tear. The kids classes are great. There is a focus on confidence , awareness ,self respect and the respect of others. Sensei makes it a point that the physical techniques they learn are a last resort when violence is unavoidable. There are also leadership and anti bullying workshops available throughout the year. The reason for starting a journey in martial arts is a personal one. Maybe you want to be more physically capable of defending yourself. Maybe you want the confidence that comes along with that. Maybe you want to get in better shape or meet new people. Maybe you want learn more about yourself and what you’re capable of. I’d humbly recommend that if you’re thinking about it to jump in. This is the place you’ve been looking for.

ECBBA is truly one of the best. Not only because of Sensei Jerry's expertise, experience and dedication, or the other sensei's knowledge and encouragement for all students. It is the real compassion and willingness to support ALL students. My child (soon to be children) absolutely love Jerry and team. He is an amazing mentor and person with a huge compassionate heart. Who , yes just so happens to be one of the best at what he teachers. Thank you to all at East Coat for welcoming my family into the ECCBA family.

My girls began going here and absolutely love it. They been asking every day to go and I am going as well. Sensei Figgiani is amazing and the rest. They are so welcoming and break down the techniques to help you understand. I would highly recommend East Coast Belt.

I honestly can't say enough good things about East Coast Black Belt Academy! From day one, I felt super welcome and they made my son feel super welcome .The instructors are amazing, super skilled but also really down-to-earth and encouraging. They teach you respect, discipline, conference, how to deal with challenges in class and outside of class. My son has become so much more disciplined and is learning more and more to have confidence in himself. Learning to defend himself from bully and learning so much more. It’s not just a karate school, it’s like a family. Everyone is super supportive. If you're thinking about joining or having your kid joining, trust me, you won’t regret it! East Coast Black Belt Academy is hands down the best place..

Having discovered East Coast Black Belt Academy and Shorin Ryu Karate has been both a privilege and a true blessing. Under the guidance of Sensei Jerry—a dedicated martial artist and a man who genuinely "walks the walk" my love of the art has only grown. His commitment to teaching and living the principles of martial arts has left a lasting impact on me. Now, as I begin a new chapter of instructing students here in Iowa, I’m excited to share this journey with them. My hope is to inspire and teach with the same integrity and passion that Sensei Jerry has shown me, striving to be even half the instructor he has been for me.
